Duffy Post + Beware of fakes!

If you’re a member of the MiceChat forums and especially frequent Duffy’s section, you probably know what The Duffy Post is!

For those of you who are not a member of the forum and have no idea what the Duffy Post is, I’d highly recommend signing up and checking it out, as it’s one of the cheapest ways available to get Japanese Duffy Merchandise–unless you actually know someone in Japan/someone who works at Tokyo Disney/you yourself can easily get to Tokyo Disney, obviously. For those of us who, unfortunately, do not know anyone (or just feel bad asking) or do not live anywhere near there, this will probably be your best way of getting those items or even occasionally UniBEARsity items which fit Duffy and Shellie May quite well.

If you’re somewhere outside Japan and do not know anyone who could get you anything, there are essentially only two common options.

Option 1: A bidding service, suck as Rinkya or Japamart. I tend to prefer Japamart because while Rinkya doesn’t force you to make a deposit to bid, Japamart’s fees are much smaller while Rinkya could turn a 40 dollar item into you paying 90.
–A bidding service allows you to bid on Yahoo!Japan or buy off Japanese sites. Most Japanese sellers will not ship outside Japan and a lot of them do not use paypal, but rather a system through the banks. Thus, there aren’t many other ways to do it. Some of the bidding services also work to let you buy off other Japanese sites, like a fan blog for example or an actual online shop, that may be selling stuff you’d like. The other issue, if the fees weren’t enough, is you have to pay shipping twice. Once to get to the Bidding Service in Japan and once to get to you.

Option 2: Ebay
–Ebay shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. While you can occasionally find good deals, more often than not, you will find people overpricing things and trying to rip you off, especially with Japanese merchandise.

For an uncommon option example, if you can find someone on Ebay or maybe a certain store owner in Japan who can speak some English (or if you can speak Japanese), you could find someone who may shop for you. The main issue with this is it can evolve a lot of trust and chances are, your only communication would be over e-mail and/or instant messengers.

But yes, this is why the Duffy Post is a nice thing to see. While it still won’t be as cheap as if you went and bought them yourselves, the one cost shipping and small fee (25%-33% of the overall cost usually, 40%-50% for unplanned visits that are asked for by a customer) is still much cheaper than any other options (unless you find some ridiculously awesome deal). There is a minimum order of 3,000 Yen usually, though, sometimes this can be lowered. The price is actually the cost of just one outfit (I wasn’t kidding when I said Japan’s outfits were more expensive afterall!) so hitting the minimum shouldn’t be too hard. The only time it gets a bit expensive is if you ask for anything that isn’t a planned trip in which you’d have to put in price for the park ticket and transportation for DuffyDaisuki, the creator of Duffy Post. If more people also want to order during an unplanned visit, the ticket and transportation costs will be split amongst everyone 🙂 Meaning the price could be a lot smaller in the end.

Planned visits usually happen sometime after the date for new outfits arrives 🙂 And will be announced accordingly! Right now, while the Be Magical! set is on hold though, there is a Shopping Trip available for anyone who’d like some of the UniBEARsity stuff which are also nicely made and look quite adorable on Duffy! However, the deadline is tomorrow so if you really want something, I’d recommend signing up and getting your order in ASAP! <3 However, don't just join to order from Duffy Post--it's a nice little community and it'd be nice to see more people. 🙂 __________________________________ Now, for an important message. People ARE starting to make bootleg Duffy, especially in Singapore and China. As usual, they do get pretty close, so if you do buy one from there, be sure to compare it carefully and read everything. If they don't say it came from Japan or it looks off, it is most likely fake.

What is the difference between Shellie May and Duffy?

Well, readers, the difference is…Shellie May is a girl!

…I’m kidding, I know you wanted more than that 😛 But yes, the main difference between the two is that Shellie May is a girl and Duffy is a boy. That doesn’t mean your Duffy can’t be a girl or that your Shellie May can’t be a boy, just character-wise, those were the genders they were given.

You will notice by comparison, there are a few obvious differences:
1. Shellie May comes with a bow (which is actually removeable)
2. Shellie May’s fur is a different shade of brown.
3. Shellie May’s paws and foot prints are a rosey pink instead of dark brown.
4. Shellie May has blue eyes.
5. Shellie May has eyelashes.

Some of the harder to notice differences are that Shellie May’s face is a bit slimmer/more narrow than Duffy’s which makes her look a bit slimmer. Shellie May’s Mickey face mark (the one near her butt) is also on the opposite side that Duffy’s is on.

Those are the only differences, really. Shellie May’s brown is more of a reddish brown while Duffy’s is more of an orange-shade of brown. I will say, however, that while Shellie May looks pink in all the promo art and a rose-color in most official pictures, she is actually a bit more brown colored:

Thank you to Rakuten for the image

Her color always seems to be a bit hard to see in pictures, so I’d recommend to try and see one in real life before deciding if you’d like her or not 🙂

Her eyelashes are sewn on (unlike the eyelashes you may have seen on custom Duffy) so they are not removable (unless you sewed like…fur over them or something).

In site related news, we now have new profile pictures on the profile page 🙂 Something a bit more Disney-related. Expect the pictures of the bears to be up soon!

And in more Shellie May related news, I realized I forgot to include her in the categories 🙂 So I’ve gone and added them! Yay!

Category bar fixed :)

Some of you may remember the category bar being a bit glitched and sticking out of the sidebar. I’m happy to say it’s now fixed and should not cause any other issues!

Yay!

Duffy sets sail!

No, no, he isn’t leaving! Relax. In fact, Duffy is just doing what he loves best–traveling a bit more 🙂 He will now be on the Disney Wonder! It is Duffy’s first cruise and hopefully just the beginning to many more to come!

Here is a lovely photo of Duffy enjoying his time thanks to the official Disney Cruise Line Twitter Page:

So, for those of you who can’t go to the parks too often or just prefer the cruises in general, hopefully this is a good opportunity for you to see Duffy yourself! 🙂

Edit: Another picture from Duffy’s Official Facebook:

Icon on the Side Bar!

You may have noticed it’s finally up. 🙂 It’s also random and will change upon refreshing or page changing. Right now, there’s only two options so sometimes it may not (as it is random and still has a random chance to pick up the one you saw to begin with!), but more will be added overtime.

Below, you can see the big versions of each. And also understand why Nomi will do most of the art for the site 😛 As these are both done by me.

We also have new categories for our bears so if you’re here for them, you can find posts right about them or relating to there 🙂

Custom Outfits from Japan

While I don’t have Ahim ready to model the outfit yet (long story, don’t ask), the outfit has been sitting next to me in all it’s beautiful glory and I’ve seen a few people ask exactly what was the big deal with Japanese custom outfits–why are they so nice. If you couldn’t tell by the pictures I posted yesterday of some of the outfits on Ebay, the Japanese tend to not only use incredibly high-quality material (Like silk and lace), but usually every single part is there. It’s not just a full Kimono–it’s a Kimono tied with an obi and comes with every accessory you can think of. While other outfits are usually very nicely made (Those dresses are gorgeous), there’s a lot put into the Japanese ones rather than just the look.

This is the outfit I got for Ahim off Yahoo!Japan from this seller:

The outfit has a lot of various details, from the pearls to the gold necklace and earrings to the lace and ribbons. There’s just…so much to it and it’s adorable. And yes, it came with everything, the earrings, bloomers, shoes, ribbons, necklaces, and dress are all here.

And for those who really aren’t all “frills and lace” or “formal-wear”, they do make casual outfits. Or even other kinds of outfits too. For example, here is an outfit made by nideru that I would love to get so much:

And for those who still don’t see that as very casual, here’s two casual ones I went and looked up:

Auction here and Auction here respectively for anyone who wants to see 🙂

As a fun note, there will usually be more custom female outfits than male outfits. This is because until Shellie May came out in 2010, all outfits were generally male (for obvious reasons). While some could be unisex, there wasn’t anything girly. There are still male outfits made, but they’re a bit harder to find.

Similarly, for those of you who may prefer the little keychains and pin Duffy, they even make outfits for them 🙂

I absolutely adore this piece of art by a wonderful artist and wanted everyone to see it 🙂 If you like it, please give her a comment!

So, I think it’s official that Custom Duffy are starting to catch on. While stumbling upon some new Customs, I also found some of the first custom Duffy outfits on Ebay! They are actually incredibly nice so if you’ve been looking for some nice special outfits for your Duffy that won’t cost tons due to exchange rate and/or Bidding fees, you may want to take a look at these wonderful outfits by kentouchfish.

You can find all the auction links here.

For those of you who would still prefer custom outfits made by people in Japan, well, at least one has appeared on ebay 🙂 So check out some of her beautiful outfits:

You can find all the auction links here.

As mentioned, there really are A LOT more Custom Duffy popping up. We’ll probably not mention as many soon unless we see a really nice one because of it 🙂 However, since I know a lot of you are probably sick of it, I’ll put it under the read more link…so if you want to see: (more…)
